3 days exploirng La Spezia treasures
Description of offer
La Spezia is situated in a unique and incomparable strategic position : the Ligurian Sea skims and smoothens its weather , the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine surrounds its back, its being close to Tuscany makes moving South easier and the richness of its landscape is such that it situates it right between two Mab parks of the Unesco.
Seaside, mountains, hills, plain, rivers and ancient villages: the surrounding areas of La Spezia are really rich .
You won’t need any car to visit La Spezia as the town center is small and you can easily walk around it
The privileged starting point cannot but be the town seaside hence from here we will start a one-day- long -walking tour with our tour guide for us to discover the town wonders : the harbour in the Poets Gulf and the Thaon de Revel Bridge, the Public Gardens and the statue of Garibaldi, the Naval Museum and the Navy dock- yards, Corso Cavour and Via Prione, the buildings In the historic center and Oldoinis Palace, Santa Maria Assunta Church, the daily market square, Piazza Garibaldi, the Block of Arts& the Seals Museum , the Lia Musem, the Civic Theatre, the San Giorgio Castle, the Cathedral and Piazza Europa.
Lunch break based on the typical Ligurian street food: focaccia bread, farinata ( chick-pea tart ) and fried anchovies.
Accomodation at hotel in town center and dinner based on the traditional Mesciùa, typical dish of the so-called “poor cuisine “.
After breakfast we will leave for a compelling excursion on the sea :the fishing tourism and ichthyic tourism have become more and more developing activities in the recent years: the awareness that a territory’ s or a Country’s character can be deeply conceived only through its typical products and its know-how keeping is an essential value-added difference between an anonymous holiday and an experience to be kept in one’s memories.
Despite its commercial and tourist harbours, Liguria owns one of the cleanest seas of the Peninsula and the dozens of blue flags this has been awarded confirm this trend.
The fishing tourism practiced by skilled fishers owning a specific licence is allowed within 3 miles from the coast.
This allows traditional fishing methods such as trawl nets, ledger rig and hiding nets, whilst the mechanical catching methods such as the trawl fishing are forbidden.
Spending a whole day on board of a fishing boat or of a typical Ligurian fishing goiter mainly means changing one’s point of view and appreciating Liguria on the base of its main element: the sea .
Villages and towns can thus be enjoyed in a totally new perspective if one is able to watch skilled fishers acting, steal their secrets and try the fresh catch .
Fished-based lunch as we walk, back to the hotel for overnight stay and dinner.
After breakfast we will leave for a whole day dedicated to the discovering of the traditional Ligurian cuisine
A specific cooking class will allow us to prepare highly tasty typical pasta dishes : testaroli with pesto sauce, Ligurian ravioli as well as the well known trofie!
The cooking class will take place in a friendly atmosphere, where participants will make and eventually have for lunch the dishes they have made out of fresh and natural ingredients.
Our Ligurian flavour- based tour will then continue visiting a lab where the typical pesto sauce is made.
This has been a traditional, original home made Ligurian dressing from the 19th century and has then been included among the traditional Ligurian agricultural products.
The cooking class participants will make pesto out of its typical ingredients, which is to say basil, sea salt, pine seeds and garlic, along with Parmesan cheese and extra virgin olive oil.
Back to the hotel in the late afternoon
